NA5DV participated in the 6th Annual Worldwide Museum Ship's Weekend Event sponsored by the USS Salem on July 20th and 21st, 2002. We operated in the newly restored "General Stores Keeper's Office." We participated for several hours on both days operating on 20 and 40 meter ssb using Kenwood radio equipment donated by a Earl Patterson of Gambrills, Md. Earl was a WW2 radio technician on the Texas. Five operators made a total of 230 contacts including five museum ships. There were some special qso's such as the one I made with N1SWN/AM, an aeronautical mobile in a private jet aircraft 42,000 feet over the Oklahoma/Missouri border. We invite Houston area amateur radio operators to assist in the operation of BTARS.
A special QSL card is available for stations contacting NA5DV. Please send a SASE to Frank Cooper, NA5DV Trustee, 4215 Ravine Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546.
